Frederick C. Flynn, Jr.
President, Founder

Fred is the founder and primary sponsor of the foundation. He created the Flynn Fellowship program in memory of his wife, Susan, who died of ovarian cancer in 2013, out of respect and gratitude for the skilled nurses and palliative care professionals who cared for her.
Fred had a long successful career as a financial executive with several leading companies, including United Technologies, GE and CUNO. Following his retirement from the corporate world he served as the CFO of the City of Stamford, CT for 2 years. More recently he was the Executive in Residence for the Dean of the Sacred Heart College of Nursing. He currently is an Advisory Board member of several leading undergraduate nursing schools and is actively involved with many healthcare industry organizations (e.g. Oncology Nursing Society, Jonas Nursing & Veterans Health, Schwartz Center, APHON, etc.).
Fred has a BA degree in Economics from Boston College and an MBA from the University of Connecticut. He lives in Stamford, CT.
Matthew M. Flynn
Vice President, Fundraising & Development

Matt works as Head of Trading & Market Research at JANA Partners, a value-oriented asset manager that focuses on corporate engagement. He has several years of capital markets experience. In his Board role he focuses primarily on Fundraising and Development. Matt received a BS degree from Boston College in 2013 with a major in Finance and a minor in Philosophy. In his spare time, Matt enjoys golf, cooking and snowboarding. Matt’s wife Molly is highly experienced within the field of Oncology; she currently works as a Nurse Practitioner focusing on Leukemia Services at Columbia University’s Irving Medical Center. They live in Harrison, NY with their young son. Matt is the son of the foundation’s founder, Fred, and program honoree, Susan Flynn.
Michael J. O’Rourke
Vice President, Treasurer

Michael works for Oppenheimer & Co. in a financial advisory capacity as Executive Director of The O’Rourke Group. His responsibilities include developing and managing Advisory/Client relationships. He has extensive experience in investment management, financial planning and the capital markets. Michael serves on the Board of Malta House, a leading nonprofit which he co-founded in 1998 as a home for single, homeless, expectant mothers. It has housed over 650 women and children during the past 25 years and provided a beacon of hope with an emphasis on compassionate care, education, training and career development. He also is a member of the Investment and Finance Committees for the Diocese of Bridgeport CT and a Board member of the Young Catholic Professionals, an organization with an emphasis on mentoring and helping young catholics (ages 25-40) network. Michael has a BA degree in Liberal Arts (Classics) from Fairfield University and an Executive MBA/M.S. degree in Finance from Columbia University. Michael lives in Stamford, CT with his wife Anne Celeste. They are long-standing members of the Order of Malta, a lay religious organization devoted to the exercise of Christian virtue and charity.
Kristina Capretti

Kristina Capretti, MSN, RN, ANP-BC, OCN, is the Director of Patient Services for Yale New Haven Health (YNHH) Smilow Cancer Hospital Care Center at Greenwich Hospital and Bridgeport Hospital. Ms. Capretti has been widely recognized as a nursing leader. In 2015, she was selected to participate in the Yale New Haven Health System Nursing Leadership Academy through the Yale School of Management, Executive Education. In 2019, she received the Greenwich Hospital Daisy Award, an internationally recognized award for extraordinary nurses, and in 2021 she was recognized as one of Fairfield County’s distinguished “Forty Under 40” for her professional impact and potential.
Kristina is a board-certified adult Nurse Practitioner with a concentration in Primary and Palliative Care. She has served in various progressive roles in nursing leadership. Throughout her career, Kristina has had a steadfast focus on improvement of quality outcomes, patient satisfaction, and practice excellence using data to guide systemic change in program practice.
Kristina is dedicated to supporting the development of novice Oncology Nurses. She is the Program Manager for the Smilow Cancer Hospital Susan Flynn Oncology Nursing Fellowship.
Kristina is currently a Samuel H. and Maria Miller Scholar in the DNP Nurse Executive Track, Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing, Case Western Reserve University. She received a BS degree in Nursing and an MS in Nursing degree from New York University, Rory Meyers College of Nursing.
Kristina lives in Armonk, NY with her family.
Amy Kaiser
Director of Professional Development

Amy Kaiser, BSN, RN, is a Pediatric Oncology/Bone Marrow Transplant nurse at Duke University Hospital. She was a 2019 Flynn Fellow at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. After experiencing the profound impact of this fellowship on her own education and career progression, in 2021, Amy offered to help implement the organization’s expanding mission and goals by becoming the director of the Professional Development Committee of the Flynn Fellows Advisory Board. In this role, she has developed mutually valuable collaborative relationships with several leading national oncology organizations–including the Oncology Nursing Society and the Association of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses–based on shared goals of promoting research, advocacy, and mentorship in the oncology nursing community.
Amy enjoys guiding undergraduate nursing students through the process of presenting “evidence-based” research at oncology nursing conferences and cultivating additional educational opportunities for the foundation’s network of current fellows and fellowship program alumni. She was appointed to the foundation’s Board of Directors in 2023 and serves as Chair of the Flynn Fellows Advisory Board.
Amy received a BS degree in Nursing from the University of Scranton and is currently a student at the University of North Carolina in the Pediatric Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Program. She plans to practice as a Pediatric Oncology or Bone Marrow Transplant Nurse Practitioner after graduating in May.
Amy lives in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
Mary E. Finnegan
Director Emeritus

Mary has been a Board member since our founding in 2014. She has had a long and prominent career in nursing spanning clinical, educational and leadership roles. Providing students and staff with valuable learning and professional development opportunities has been a hallmark of Mary’s career.
Mary recently retired from her role as Senior Director of Quality and Patient Safety at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital (a Magnet-designated subsidiary of Mass General) in Dover, NH. She has served as a very engaged and valuable advisor and program advocate as a Director. Fortunately, Mary has agreed to continue to share her extensive nursing and healthcare management expertise with our foundation by serving as our first Director Emeritus.
Mary received her BSN in Nursing from Saint Anselm College and her MEd from the University of New Hampshire. Mary resides in Wells, Maine. Mary is the sister of the foundation’s founder, Fred.
Stephen Corman
Director Emeritus

Mr. Stephen Corman, a former long-time IBM executive, has devoted his retirement to healthcare causes, particularly including Palliative Care and Oncology. He has been involved in the founding of and has served on the boards of several national prostate cancer organizations. In addition, he has a long and distinguished history of volunteerism and philanthropy at Greenwich Hospital and is a strong advocate and valuable supporter of our foundation. We are very fortunate to have Steve as a Director Emeritus.
Steve has served as a Legislative Ambassador for the American Cancer Society and received its Courage Award and is a member of the Connecticut Health Advocacy Forum and the Connecticut Cancer Partnership. He runs the Prostate Cancer Education Forum at Greenwich Hospital where he is also an oncology volunteer. He also founded the Stephen and Betsy Corman Palliative Care Center and the Stephen Corman Prostate Cancer Early Detection Initiative at Greenwich Hospital.
In addition to the our foundation, other local organizations that have benefited from Steve’s extraordinary philanthropy include Sacred Heart University (WSHU), My Friend Abby, Stamford’s Ferguson Library, Westport Country Playhouse and the Fairfield County Hospice House.
Steve has BS and MS degrees from MIT in Business & Management and lives in Greenwich, CT.
Katherine E. Flynn
Special Advisor, Marketing & Communications

Katie previously served as a Director of the foundation but relinquished that role in 2022 to allow more time for her family. She graciously agreed to stay on as a Special Advisor in the important areas of Marketing and Communications. Katie is a successful entrepreneur in Aspen, CO. After graduating from Boston College in 2009 as a PreMed student, with a major in Biology and a minor in Environmental Studies, her heart led her to Colorado instead of medical school. It was through her lifestyle in the mountains that she discovered her true passion for art, and founded her hand-crafted jewelry company, Mineral + Mine. In her spare time Katie’s interests include painting, hiking, mountain biking, and skiing. Katie resides in Aspen, CO with her husband and their young daughter.
Katie is the daughter of the foundation’s founder, Fred, and program honoree, Susan Flynn.
